Want a sustaining protein shake for post fitness?
Try using hemp seeds! Hemp Seeds are an army-green coloured seed, with a nutty flavour and a wealth of nutrition.
Why Hemp Seeds?
The humble hemp seed is a great protein source. Not only does it contain ALL 20 amino acids (rare for plant proteins!)…but also each of the 9 essential amino acids that our bodies can’t produce. Aside from protein…it’s low carb, high in calcium (needed for strong bones & teeth), iron (needed to prevent anaemia), manganese (needed for normal brain and nerve function) and phosphorus (needed to filter kidney waste).
Are they safe?
Yes! Fortunately, Hemp seeds don’t contain the active substance that’s in marijuana. So it’s safe to consume..even for child.
How to turn seeds into a powder?
Hemp seeds are pretty soft, so processing them in a blender or food processor for a couple minutes will turn them into a fine powder. I usually blend 2 Cups of hemp seeds (pictured above) in my Vitamix Blender, which turns them into a fine powder in under a minute.
Why go through this..just for protein powder?!
Protein powder is great..But can be pricey, have added sugars, or a list of unpronounceable ingredients! So whether you want something extra to put in your smoothies..need something to help you feel satiated..or desire a post workout drink.. try out hemp seeds!
You can buy them from any Holland and Barrett for £3.29 for a 250g bag. The smoothie pictured above and below this caption is a delicious, sugar-free protein shake which has 15g of protein (on average men should eat 55g and women 45g a day) using our star seed!..Hemp seeds.
